BIO

Apostolos Sarris (male) holds a B.A. in Astronomy & Physics (1985) and an M.A. in Physics (1988) from Boston University and a M.Sc. (1990) and a Ph.D. in Physics/Geophysics (1992) from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. He is Professor of the Chair “Sylvia Ioannou” on Digital Humanities at the Archaeological Research Unit of Department of History and Archaeology of the University of Cyprus and Research Director at F.O.R.T.H. - Head of the Laboratory of Geophysical-Satellite Remote Sensing and Archaeo-environment (GeoSat ReSeArch Lab). At the same time he is an Adjunct/Affiliate Professor of Cyprus University of Technology and a Research Associate of the Dept. of Anthropology, The Field Museum of Natural History of Chicago, Illinois, USA. He has been a Senior MC Fellow of the EU at FRIAS/Freiburg University, a DLR-DAAD Research Fellow and a visiting senior researcher at the University of Leiden.

Apostolos Sarris acted also as a vice-president of the European Section of the Archaeological Remote Sensing Consortium, as an assistant Greek representative in the scientific committee for Peace and Security of NATO, Vice-Chair of the International Society of Archaeological Prospection (ISAP) and as President of CAA-GR. He is currently Treasurer of UISPP Commission IV, and associate editor of the Society for Archaeological Sciences Bulletin, of Archaeological and Anthropological Sciences Journal and of Archaeological Prospection Journal.

He is member of scientific experts and evaluation committees for the Italian Ministry of Education, Universities and Research, The European Research Council Executive Agency, the Russian Science Foundation, the European Research Council, the National Center of Science and Technology of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the Netherlands Organisation for Scientific Research, the Hellenic Foundation for Research and Innovation, etc.

Dr Sarris has more than 300 publications (including 1 Ph.D. dissertation, 47 books and book chapters, 2 Proceedings volumes, 113 refereed journal papers, and 137 refereed papers in proceedings). His teaching experience include contracted Lectureships at various institutions (Aristotle Univ. of Thessaloniki; Univ. of Crete., TEI Chania; National Air-force Academy; Univ. of Maryland – European Division).
